Zarif meets UN chief in NY

TEHRAN, Oct. 06 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is in New York to attend the UN General Assembly, met the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Monday.

Ban Ki-moon, during the meeting, warmly welcomed the participation of the Iranian president at the 70th UN General Assembly in New York and added that the nuclear deal reached between Iran and 5+1 is a path towards regional and global peace. He also added that the UN and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are fully ready to cooperate for implementation of the agreement.

During the meeting, the Iranian official discussed the death of Iranian pilgrims during the Mina tragedy.   

The two officials also talked about the regional crises in Yemen, Syria, Iraq and Lebanon. Considering Iran’s regional stance, the UN Secretary General urged the country to cooperate with the UN for solving the crises.

Zarif, for his part, rejected a military solution and said that Iran has constantly tried to solve the crises through a political way and it will continue to cooperate with regional countries as well as UN to put an end to regional crises through political negotiations.
